Use this amazing varnish over any media on any surface.
- For use over acrylic or oils or other products that are stable you just wipe your first thin layer on.
- If working with Jo Sonja or other products like watercolor paints or inks, you need to pat the first and second layer of varnish on the surface rather than 'wipe' so as not to disturb the painting itself. This will 'fix' the piece... then wipe on as many coats as you have tolerance and time for. ( a minimum of 3 or 4 but personally I apply many more coats on pieces.
- If I have the varnish out, I will pull several pieces off the shelf and just add another couple of coats while I am at it).
- You can go over pieces already varnished with other products and you will probably see an instant improvement in the appearance. The applicator is dampened with the varnish....not wet.
- Very thin coats are better than wetter, thicker coats.
- If the surface has been prepared well before painting, then I use brown paper bag after the first 5-7 coats.
- If the surface is not beginning to 'glass' up then I may use 300, sometimes even 250 sandpaper to level the surface inbetween coats.
- Each coat dries very quickly depending on humidity in the air. I never use 'gloss' over the 'satin' but sometimes I use the reverse.
- The varnish, as time passes (not long), will become harder than any other product I have used. (Pieces that travel to shows with me I notice do not show scratches and marks as previously experienced).
- The varnish does not yellow and the colors after varnishing become very vibrant and true.
- I do not rinse my applicator but rather put it into a sealed bag or plastic container. When I remove it I simply add a little varnish and it is ready to go. There is no waste.
